Geoarchaologists

Oxford Archaeology is seeking to appoint one or more geoarchaeologists at a range of levels, based in Oxford, to work on both field projects and the post excavation analysis and publication of a number of large infra-structure projects across Southern England.

Oxford Archaeology is among the few archaeological practices in Europe that can provide a range of specialist services to cater for the growing demand for geoarchaeological input into developer-funded and other projects.

We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic and flexible, with commitment and motivation to promoting innovative geoarchaeological research within the wider archaeological community.

The department offers excellent prospects of career development within a dynamic and expanding company. The position will include both office based and field work, and therefore a clean driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities will depend upon experience but may include geoarchaeological assessments, predictive deposit modelling, geotechnical watching briefs, borehole / testpitting surveys, geomorphologic site descriptions and mapping, stratigraphic interpretation and correlation, and post excavation analysis leading to publication.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate significant relevant field experience, a good knowledge of British Quaternary stratigraphy, geoarchaeological field and laboratory methods, and developer funded archaeology in general. For Project Officer level, experience of designing and implementing geoarchaeological investigations, post excavation assessment and analysis to publication standard, and post graduate qualifications in geoarchaeology, sedimentology, geology, or other relevant disciplines, will be an advantage.

Significant experience of Pleistocene geoarchaeology and geophysical survey will be a distinct advantage.
