Figure 1c: Detailed map of the Yarnton Study Area showing the different areas of excavation and paleochannels. We are looking at the whole landscape inside the red dashed line, with a number of different areas of full excavation. The palaeochannels are former channels of the river Thames, which today flows just south of the study area. Most of the Neolithic and Bronze Age archaeology was found on the low-lying floodplain crossed by these channels. Click on the light yellow area to access these period pages. Most of the Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and medieval archaeology was found on the higher ground, at the edge of the second Gravel Terrace. Click on the green area to access the Iron Age and Roman pages. Click on the orange area to access the Saxon and medieval pages.
